Brandon Scott Rumsey is a composer, bassoonist, and teacher based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His compositions emphasize harmony, rhythm, texture and orchestrational color and frequently explore themes of love, nature, and conversation. Brandon's recent concert works have been performed by the Contemporary Undercurrent of Song, New York Festival of Song, Miami Frost Wind Ensemble, sTem Trio, Trade Winds Quintet, Boston New Music Initiative, Luna Nova Music, and the Eugene Contemporary Chamber Ensemble in venues across the US, in Africa and Australia. Brandon recently completed a doctoral degree in Composition and a Graduate Certificate student in LGBTQ Studies at the University of Michigan where he also taught music theory. Committed to advocacy, Brandon's research and artistic initiatives are frequently motivated by issues surrounding diversity, equity, inclusion in and access to the performing arts.
